Funky Baby Clothes and Where To Buy Them?

In these times of austerity parents still want their children to look cool as they are an extension of us and our standing in the community. So… where are the best places to buy funky baby clothes at reasonable and affordable prices and what constitutes cool and funky?

Of course, what is cool and hip depends on where in the world you are. In America sports related clothes and rock music themed baby clothes seem to be the order of the day. Surfer dude clothes are very popular in the warmer parts and near the coast for obvious reasons. In the UK for instance, Cornwall on the Atlantic Ocean is really the only place in the British Isles that surfer dudes can congregate with any credence. America and Australia have a bigger share of the surfer dude and Skater market because they have the weather and waves.

In the UK generally funky baby clothes consist of retro and punk style clothing. Sometimes sporting rebellious and slightly risqué slogans really aimed at their parents. Since the punk era, it has been cool in the UK to retain your rebellious side and express it through your children. We have a strange situation in the UK because many of the current set of grandparents were punks in the 1970’s and although older now, they are still slightly rebellious. Besides… the UK is the home of punk. I can’t wait for the next 20 years as the elderly care homes fill up with ex-punks and football hooligans in the UK.

Australia is a more outdoor community due to the climate so this influences what is considered funky baby clothes. Mostly sports related clothes are cool for babies; again it’s an extension of the parents and their lifestyle. Accept in the cities where retro and punk is more hip. Obviously surfer dudes rule the day in Queensland and the east coast of Australia in general but retro and punk is popular in Sydney.

Something else that dictates what is cool or funky baby attire is class and social standing. This is really prevalent in the UK more than anywhere else as the class system is alive and well due to it still being a monarchy. Working class people dress their kids in their favourite sports team’s clothes and some low end designer baby clothes. Conservative middle class England consider vintage baby clothes to be cool or dress their kids in little versions of what they wear themselves. We also have the nouveaux riche who have the wealth of the middle and upper classes but the rebellious and down to earth attitude of the working classes and they consider punk and retro baby clothes to be cool. They will also buy high end smart designer clothes for special occasions and parties.

So where to get these clothes… of course if you are on a budget, eBay and charity shops are good. It’s better to buy good quality second hand funky baby clothes than cheap as chips new baby clothes as they fade and fall apart. Especially if you are having more children, you want the clothes to last as they pass down the pecking order. My three year old daughter is wearing her bigger sister’s designer clothes and they still look like new. Well worth the extra the first time around as we rarely buy her any clothes this time around.

Buying quality funky baby clothes is easy; there are many great outlets online. You can use shopping comparison websites like www.shopping.com, www.pricegrabber.com and www.shopzilla.com, plus of course Amazon to get the best price or to see what’s out there. You can be specific and use the search engines, Google and Bing are obviously the best, both of which have a shopping section that most people forget. Use Google Shop or Bing Shop to find what you want at the right price. I hope this helps you in your endeavours to find cool and funky baby clothes. They don’t stay babies for long, so enjoy this time as they will be adults before you know it.
